Positions Offered
- Lifeguards - seasonal, part-time, hourly. Weekends starting in May, daily June-August, weekends in September, possibly into October depending on closing date.
- Facility Attendant - seasonal, part-time, hourly. Short shift a few times a week to pick up and clean the facilities in the pre- and post- guarded times the club is open (when members have self access, starting for the month of May, then returning Sept/Oct as needed)
Hiring Procedure
- All previous Lifeguards have priority in the job openings. This means there will only be openings for Lifeguards if any of the the previous season’s lifeguards chose not to return for the upcoming season.
- There is a maximum of 12 Lifeguards and possibly 1 or 2 "on-call" positions.
- All positions have flexible hours and all personnel must be available to work at least 2 of the 4 Holidays/Events during the season (Memorial Day, 4th of July, August Member Social and Labor Day).
- Hiring of staff goes to the best qualified candidates following an interview process and it is not on a first-come basis.
LIFEGUARDS
Duties of Lifeguards include ensuring guest safety, enforcing rules, providing guest service, responding to aquatic and on land emergencies, providing medical care as trained, complete cleaning and maintenance of bathrooms, grounds, patio and BBQ areas and such related cleaning of property.
Lifeguards may rotate to a variety of positions throughout their shifts including standing positions, seated positions, roving positions, and in water positions as needed.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- The Lifeguard is responsible for guarding the entire pool area, responding to any level of incident around the entire facility ,enforcing our rules fairly and politely, checking and maintaining pool chemicals, being responsive to member and guest requests, ensuring member safety, and other tasks assigned by the Head Guard and/or Board of Directors.
- Maintain constant surveillance and visually scan assigned area of responsibility every 10 seconds. Walk the area to monitor activities and prevent accidents.
- Provide general information on pool operations to members.
- Caution swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards, enforce pool rules and regulations.
- Respond to all illness and injury incidents around the entire pool facility immediately and appropriately. This includes, but not limited to performing Lifeguarding skills, First Aid, CPR, and First Aid until arrival of emergency medical services.
- Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning.
- Maintain a clean, safe and orderly pool, deck, grounds, office, and restrooms.
- Inspect facilities regularly and report any unsafe conditions/equipment to supervisor or Facilities Director immediately.
- Perform pool chemical checks at designated times.
- Cover and/or uncover the pool.
- Keep accurate records of pool usage, chemical levels, pool closures, etc.
- Attend and participate in all Mandatory Staff Meetings and Trainings.
Other Functions:
- Work together as a team with other guard staff.
- Be the Club’s "goodwill" ambassador and greet and assist members and guests.
- Perform with a high level of customer service and ensuring a positive customer experience.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, including abiding by uniform requirements.
- Other related duties may be assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Good decision-maker.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Understand and abide by Highlands customer service standards and procedures.
- Maintain personal physical endurance and agility necessary to perform job functions.
Lifeguard Requirements:
- American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguarding certification, preferably taken at an outdoor pool
- ARC - First Aid certification
- ARC - CPR/AED for the Professional Lifeguard certification
- Minimum 16 years of age
Physical Requirements:
- Administer first aid
- Perform tasks requiring physical strength and/or stamina to effectively rescue victims, administer first aid, and CPR Perform work, which involves frequent lifting, pushing and pulling of heavy objects
- Hear and distinguish a variety of sounds in a noisy environment such as participants in need of assistance, whistles, or co-workers requesting assistance in a rescue effort
- See program participants in need of assistance from any distances
- Speak loudly to warn program participants of impending danger
Work Environment:
Outdoor weather conditions with little to no temperature control, is routinely exposed to the sun, may be exposed to extreme heat, cold, wind and rain works on uneven and/or slippery surfaces and is periodically exposed to hazardous conditions/situations.
Availability to work days, early mornings, late evenings and weekends may be required to furnish identification badges, uniforms, and Red Cross training materials.
